Sally BeeGiven your success how do you manage your life to keep it in balance?

The most important thing I do is eat well and rest well. I never eat on the run, and always stop my work to take a proper break, only if its for 30 minutes. I also have 3 children who keep me pretty grounded!

How did you take the step from fighting for survival to creating the recipes?

Part of my survival was based around food so it was an easy and life-saving transition. I was sent home from hospital with no positive prognosis for survival at all so any thing I could do to help me survive was an important part of my recovery. I had to feel in control of my life a little and by creating healthy meals that would give the best possible chance of getting better were such an important part of that. I also had 3 small children at home at the time and so wanted to make dishes that were enticing for them too!

What has been your most favourite part of your success?

The adventure I'm having is amazing. There is no one thing that I am enjoying more than the rest - the whole package is really good. I'm off to The White House next week which will be fantastic and I think its great to show the kids that nothing should stop you doing what you really want to do. Even with a heart condition `i make the best of everything I do.

Your recipes are delicious, but what advice would you give to parents of fussy eaters to persuade them to try something different?

Get kids involved in the shopping and cooking and cut out all processed food. Processed food dampens the taste buds and kids don't taste things properly. They need 'clean' taste buds to really enjoy the best of natural food. Also, DO allow treats. Kids need small amounts of sweeties and desserts and they are much more likely to eat a healthy nutritious meal if they don't feel they are being punished in some way. I have produced a week long healthy eating plan with Florida Grapefruit and this gives some wonderful child friendly recipes for healthy eating, such as , Florida Pink Grapefruit and Raspberries With Granola and Manuka honey flavoured low fat natural yoghurt, as well as offering some great tips to include superfruits, such as Florida Grapefruit, into your day.

What are you most proud of in your career, or life to date?

My kids, my kids and my kids!....oh and the fact that I'm a really good car parker! I can get into the smallest space!!

Describe your perfect day.

The busier the better. I like to get up early on the morning and get the jobs done around the house before the day really begins. Then after getting the kids off to school I'll do an hour long walk with the dog and a couple of friends to get some exercise and catch up on the gossip. Then usually I go back and sit at my desk for a couple of hours to answer emails and do some writing. Twice a week I film for my recipe video blog, so that needs planning and I'll often have interviews, or TV appearances which will take up the rest of the day. I get to bed really early, sleep like a log and get up early again the next day.

Do you listen to music? What is on your iPod?

I have an ipod but never use it because I can never decide what to listen to. I prefer to listen to the radio so someone else chooses the music for me!!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking of changing their eating habits what would it be?

Start to listen to your body. When you eat something, ask yourself how it makes you feel. The great thing about eating for health is that you will start to feel so much better that you won't want to go back to your old, unhealthy ways!
