Food HeroesSynopsis: Food Heroes is a collection of essays profiling remarkable leaders in the artisanal food movement and will be a must-read for young foodies, devotees of the sustainability movement, and hungry readers in search of good stories. Here Georgia Pellegrini introduces readers to the lively stories of artisanal food devotees such as mushroom forager Marion Burroughs, fig collector Francis Honore, fish missionary Jon Rowley, and Ugo Buzzio, one of the last makers of traditional dry-cured sausages in the United States. Human nature and transition, nourishment and fulfilment, and underlines the importance of food as a means to sustain healthy communities and bring people together. Filled with colourful anecdotes, photographs and recipes, this book offers an accessible introduction to the artisanal food movement, as well as vicarious living for armchair travellers, food lovers, curiosity seekers and others who might wonder what it would be like to drop everything and start an olive farm, or who yearn to make and sell their own clotted cream butter.

Hot Brands, Cool Places Verdict

This is a delightful book, each visit is also accompanied by recipes, so not only do you get a wonderful understanding of the daily life of the artisan, you also get an opportunity to sample the delicious flavours as well.

Above all Georgia Pellegrini has a wonderful style of writing, beautifully descriptive, the way she describes her visits to the various artisans is utterly captivating,

‘Sitting at her kitchen table for evening tea, Sue feeds me a tomato sandwich on a spiced raisin bun loaf with butter, salt and pepper, and she begins to recite some of her poems by heart. Negotiating the combination of tomato and raisin in my mouth washing it down with Earl Grey tea and buttermilk, and listening to poetry in a Cumbrian dialect is a pleasure I hadn’t imagined existed.’

An absolute treasure of a book! Highly Recommended!
