The Real Flavour of Tuscany tells the story of Tuscan cookery through 25 visual and written portraits of some of Tuscany’s most extraordinary gastronomic and food-related artisans. From a pasta maker to a bee keeper, a mushroom forager, a knife maker, a shepherd and a chestnut grower, all of these individuals have been chosen for their particular genius, passion and the excellence of their work. The book also includes 90 authentic Tuscan recipes which have been contributed by the artisans to reflect the essential ingredients of Tuscany-from bread to olive oil and from beans to chestnuts. As well as portraits of the artisans, the book also features truly superb photography from Jason Lowe, including images of the producers themselves, their locations, their food and their work. The sumptuous pictures also capture the spirit of Tuscany-its abundant landscape, generous people and wonderful food.Hot Brands Verdict
With many of us holidaying in the UK this year, this delightful book can at least transport us to Tuscany in our kitchens. It is fascinating collection of life stories of local artisans partnered with delicious recipes. You feel the local flavour through the descriptions of the artisans going about their daily work, while the recipes are set in the context of their lives. There are recipes for Antipasti, ‘First Course’ ‘Second Course’ Side Dishes, Condiments, Sweets as well as a map detailing the location of the producers and their contact details.
‘We picked a handful of apricots and ate them standing in the tall grass…. These apricots dripped juice down our chins and made our hands sticky- and they tasted like honeyed nectar, or like something the gods dreamed up when they were imagining the perfect end to a summer’s day’
It will be hard to resist booking our tickets on the next flight…. Enjoy! Highly Recommended!
