Synopsis
A frank, funny, insightful guide to navigating our middle years now that ageing has become an ongoing bush tucker trial in which women are pitted against each other to determine who can look most like their 29 year-old-self. Covers topics that women obsess about, from the totally superficial – Should I wax my moustache? Am I too old for a leather jacket? – to the bigger issues – am I having the right amount of sex? Why do I hate my best friend? Is there a cure for mid-life grumpiness? This book is like having a conversation with your sharpest, most trusted, least smug girlfriend.
Shane Watson is an author and journalist who met and married a man in her forties. She is, in other words, the statistic defying exception to the rule; a beacon of hope for single women in the thirty-five plus category who want to find Mr Right and not just Mr Gigantic Compromise.
Hot Brands Verdict
This book is very funny, there is an asterisk on the front cover with the note “or thirty” and many of her suggestions would apply to any age, with sixty becoming the new fifty etc. It’s definitely not just a book for single girls, it’s a perfect read for this post-Christmas period, when everyone is talking doom and gloom, it will make you laugh out loud, which is a tonic in itself. It’s packed full of sensible advice, and with chapters like Am I Good For My Age? What do I do about my Friends, Am I turning into my Mother? Is it Me, or is everyone Showing Off? Should They have Written to Thank Me? Can I be Single and Happy? How to Meet (the Right Man) after Forty and Now you are a Stepmother, you can see it covers much more than just how to meet Mr Right. It’s a witty social commentary, and once picked up it’s impossible to put down. If you are looking for a great weekend read this is it ! Fabulous, funny, sometimes poignant, it’s also perfect as a Valentine’s Gift for single friends, or to make your mother chuckle on Mother’s Day! Highly Recommended.
