Landscape Man: Making a GardenSynopsis: All gardeners are driven to create a landscape or garden that is their vision of perfection – whether that be a structured space complete with ordered tree avenues and immaculate rose beds, or a simple, inviting space for unwinding or entertaining.

But just how do you go about turning that vision into reality?

Written to accompany Channel 4’s prime-time TV series, Matthew Wilson demystifies landscape and garden design and demonstrates how the ideas and techniques behind the incredible landscape projects featured in the series can be translated to your garden at home.

Starting with the initial assessment and planning stages, and using the gardens featured in the series as case studies, Matthew reveals the thinking that lies behind great garden design. He discusses the big issues that pre-occupy all gardeners: planning, providing for different needs, maximising space and working with nature.
He goes on to show readers how to capture their vision and transform their space, covering topics such as enhancing light levels, installing a water feature, and choosing plants for colour, texture and form.

Alluring colour photography and detailed hand-drawn plans act as inspirational visual references, while straightforward action plans provide all the practical information needed to enable you to achieve the garden of your dreams. Fascinating, engaging and informative, once you’ve read this book, your garden will never be the same again.

Hot Brands Verdict

We have reviewed a lot of gardening books, but what we particularly like about this book is that it helps you to design a garden from scratch, and it also accompanies a television series starting tonight, April 22nd 8.00 p.m. Channel 4. Divided into Thought Process, Vision and Realisation this delightful book beautifully illustrated and photographed uses case studies to illustrate all the key stages in creating a garden.

Whatever size garden you have, however experienced a gardener you are, there are plenty of ideas to inspire you. As more and more of us are using the garden as an extra room, the last section in the book of realised gardens perfectly illustrates different ways of creating a garden to meet your needs; from urban modern, elegant classic, Mediterranean and rooftop container, low maintenance indulgence, all are detailed along with the case studies. A wonderfully inspiring book! Highly Recommended!
