Gleneagles is one of Scotland’s original brands – synonymous with the pursuit of leisure and pleasure in the most luxurious surroundings, and both famous as a sporting venue and a stage for the congress of world leaders...
The Gleneagles Hotel is perhaps the most iconic of the 5 star hotels in Scotland, a grand Edwardian resort hotel set in the Perthshire countryside one hour from the international airports at Glasgow and Edinburgh. Built in 1924 by the Caledonian railway company with its own railway station, the hotel was dubbed ‘a Riviera on the Highlands’ and with the Thirties fashion for golf, fast became a fixture on the high society calendar for golf and shooting.
The contemporary resort is a modern incarnation of the founding spirit: “the avowed intention of the management is to create happiness” – delivered by world-class hotel facilities and service. Golf at Gleneagles has a long tradition, and is a major draw for many visitors.
The hotel boasts four courses including the PGA Centenary, designed by Jack Nicklaus and selected to host the 2014 Ryder Cup. A new addition to the course’s Dormy Clubhouse is the ‘Blue Bar’ – a cleverly-designed indoor/outdoor space for the enjoyment of a cigar and a dram of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Continuing the theme of innovation in new ways to create happiness for guests, Gleneagles has recently unveiled a new offering at the award-winning ESPA spa.
‘ESPA Life’ has recently been launched, making Gleneagles the only country retreat hotel in the UK to offer this exclusive programme. ‘ESPA Life’ is a holistic wellbeing treatment incorporating fitness, alternative and complementary therapies, nutritional and lifestyle advice from specialist practitioners. In addition, the ESPA spa offers hotel guests a full range of spa treatments along with dedicated spa breaks. Gleneagles is the proud host of one of the UK’s most celebrated restaurants, Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles – the only two-michelin star restaurant in Scotland. There are two further restaurants at the hotel, along with a relaxed Jazz Age-inspired bar boasting a spectacular menu including rare and exclusive whiskies and a vast choice of fine wines from an extensive cellar. For many guests, the draw of Gleneagles: luxury, service, and vast array of activities on offer, inspires a return to one of the luxury holiday homes available at the on-site Glenmor village. Glenmor homes offer full access to resort facilities and are available for rental or seasonal ownership. |
