ALESHA DIXON AND THE VARIETY CLUB ENCOURAGE YOU TO ‘GIVE A HEART’ THIS MOTHER’S DAY
Support a noble and charitable cause this Mother’s Day with a £1 donation to the Gold Heart Badge Appeal
This Mother’s Day, The Variety Club, one of the UK’s longest running charities dedicated to sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people, looks to support inspirational mums of sick and disabled children or those children born or diagnosed with a disability. For a minimum donation of just £1, you can buy a Gold Heart Badge to support the courageous roles of these heroic and deserving mums. Every £1 raised will go towards enabling The Variety Club to provide vital, life-changing equipment and support to parents and children that need the most help.
In addition to supporting the noble cause, the newly designed Gold Heart Badge, a popular collector’s item, makes a perfect and stylish Mother’s Day gift. Gold Heart Badges are available in all Co-operative stores, H Samuel branches, Cineworld, Odeon and across all AHG/MWB venues including DeVere Venues, MWB Exchange and CEC Centres in addition to local retailers and from the Variety Club website, for a suggested minimum donation of £1.
Alesha Dixon is the face of the 2010 Gold Heart Appeal and has designed the limited-edition Gold Heart Badge, to raise money for The Variety Club. This year’s design features the classic gold finish and Alesha’s signature.
In commenting on her association with the charity, Alesha Dixon says: “The Variety Club is a fantastic charity helping so many thousands of children and young people every year regardless of whether they are sick, have mobility problems, are disabled or come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Every badge you buy will make a real difference to someone’s life. And remember just three badges will pay for an unforgettable day out for one of our young people. Have a heart, help a child.”
Established in 1991, The Variety Club Gold Hearts are the original charity badge, featuring a different design every year. Celebrating its Diamond Jubilee last year, The Variety Club has brought hope, independence and freedom to children and young people with over £200m being raised since its inception. Among its tireless work, the charity provides Sunshine Coaches, Easy Riders electric wheelchairs, exciting and educational trips, equipment for children's hospitals and life-enhancing equipment.
Paul Lawrence, Chief Barker of The Variety Club, added, “Together we will make a huge difference to so many children, young people and their families. The Gold Hearts Appeal will have a major impact on communities UK-wide. All the money raised will help to provide essential services and support. Whether it is funding a new wheelchair or a bathroom hoist, a youth programme or a Sunshine coach, we believe all children and young people should be helped on their road to independence.”

A 4D TASTE OF THE OSCARS UNVEILED AT DRAYTON MANOR THEME PARK
Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, will be showing Oscar winning film Happy Feet, at its 4D cinema for the 2010 season, which begins on 20th March.
A specially adapted film of Happy Feet, with a run time of 12 minutes, tells the tale of penguin Mumble, who bravely tries to save his penguin friends from starvation, after humans steal their food supply of fish.
The experience is made all the more sensational by the special effects in the 4D Cinema, where chairs move up and down, release sprays of water, bursts of air and various smells to react to what’s happening on the screen.
The film, included in the cost of entrance to the park, will continue to be shown at regular daily intervals throughout the 2010 season, and is just one of the treats in store for visitors as Drayton Manor celebrates its momentous 60th anniversary year.
Colin Bryan, Managing Director of Drayton Manor Theme Park comments: “We are very excited to have an Oscar winning film showing at the park this year. The 4D cinema provides great entertainment for all ages, and we wanted to show something extra special during our Diamond Jubilee.
We are extremely proud to be celebrating our 60th anniversary and hope everybody who visits the park this year will enjoy the atmosphere and have great, value for money, day out.”
The 2010 season will run from Saturday 20th March until Sunday 31st October. For full details about opening times or more information about the park, including prices, visit www.draytonmanor.co.uk or call the 24-hour information line on 0844 472 1950.
Drayton Manor Theme Park is one of the UK’s most popular family attractions with over one million visitors a year. This year, the park is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee. Drayton Manor was first opened to the public by the current owners, the Bryan family, in 1950 after husband and wife co-founders, George, OBE, and Vera Bryan, converted 80 acres of derelict land, which once belonged to the former British Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel and his family, into a wonderful family attraction. Today, set in approximately 280 acres of beautiful woodland and countryside, the family owned and run Drayton Manor Theme Park features some of the biggest, wettest and scariest rides around, including Shock-wave, G-force, Maelstrom, and Apocalypse, as well as a 15-acre zoo, the hugely popular Thomas Land™ attraction, and a 4D Cinema.
NEW TITLES FROM TEMPLAR PUBLISHING
This month there are three great new titles from Templar Publishing and our Junior Reviewers really liked them, especially the Touch and Feel book, which is beautifully illustrated and the textures are wonderful.
Their favourite book which has created hours of fun, is the Funny Felt Animal Faces, which Annabelle really loved. It encourages observation and co-ordination as the collection of felt pieces are placed on the right animals, but also allows them to mix and match to create fantasy animals, like the lion with an elephant's trunk. Highly recommended!
