JUSTIN ROSE SHARES HIS TIPS FOR BUSINESS ON THE GOLF COURSE IN AID OF SEVE BALLESTEROS TRIBUTE EVENT

GOLFING star Justin Rose has shared his top tips on how to improve your game while making deals on the golf course to raise awareness of Viva La Vida, a star-studded event in aid of the Seve Ballesteros Foundation in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

Rose, who recently saw off close competition from the likes of Luke Donald and John Senden to win the BMW Championships in Atlanta, has shared tips for putting, productive practice and warming up before a round. His expert advice is designed to help those whose time on the green is restricted to business meetings but who still want to shine.

· Keep your head still on putts

Practice putts from 4-6ft and listen for the ball to drop. To help, place your ball in a way that the logo is visible and focus your eyes on a specific letter. Amateurs have a tendency to peek and this can in turn cause the shoulders to open up and close the club face, resulting in missed putts.

· Productive practice

When you do have a little time to practice, make it count! Do this by always choosing a precise target on the range like a pin or small tree. Put a club on the ground on line with your target. You are now going to be aligned correctly each time, giving you the best chance of grooving a swing!

· Warm up before you play

Ever find yourself playing terribly on the front nine and then getting it together on the back nine? That is probably because it's taken you a while to warm up. Try arriving at the course 15 minutes earlier and either hit a few balls on the range or hit some balls into a net, or even take two clubs and make a few swings in the car park. You'll be loose, relaxed and ready to play well!

· Chipping

The most important aspect of chipping is your ball position. Most people will measure ball position in relation to their feet, for example "middle of your stance". But in chipping, it is important to think of your ball position in relation to your sternum (breastbone). The reason for this is that your sternum determines the point you’re going to contact the ground. So if you set up to the ball with the ball opposite your sternum and stay still with your swing, you will strike the chip crisply and consistently.

Viva La Vida which translates as ‘Live the Life’ will be a celebration and commemoration of Seve Ballesteros and the legacy he left behind. The annual flagship event, hosted by Ryder Cup Captain Jose Maria Olazabal, will be held at the Natural History Museum, London on December 14th 2011 to mark the end of the 2011 golfing season and help raise vital funds for brain cancer research.

DORCHESTER COLLECTION ANNOUNCES THE REOPENING OF HOTEL BEL-AIR LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
– Dorchester Collection’s property, Hotel Bel-Air, has reopened its doors on October 14, 2011, after 24 months of extensive refurbishment and redesign. Christopher Cowdray, Chief Executive Officer of Dorchester Collection, appointed two internationally renowned design teams, Alexandra Champalimaud and Rockwell Group, to oversee the thoughtful restoration. Master Chef Wolfgang Puck and his restaurant group, the Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group (WPFDG), oversees all of the luxury hotel’s food and beverage operations. A special preview room rate of $595 will be offered until December 29, 2011.

Champalimaud was commissioned to set the design style, and great care was taken to keep much of the hotel’s originality. Throughout the process, insightful feedback from valued past guests was taken into consideration when implementing many of the hotel’s design changes. The familiar Spanish Colonial architecture splashed in “Bel-Air Pink” is still present while a new generation of Hotel Bel-Air aesthetic is reflected through design themes from the glamorous decades of the 1930s, 40s and 50s, all conveyed in a fresh and elegant manner.

A total of 103 guestrooms and suites are offered, including new “Loft” and hillside accommodations, many with sweeping canyon views, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, grand pianos, and spacious decks. New to the hotel are a fitness studio and the 4,134-square-foot Hotel Bel-Air Spa by La Prairie with seven treatment rooms, including a private couple’s room with outdoor patio. The renowned oval swimming pool, a beloved element of Hotel Bel-Air for over 65 years, has retained its signature shape and can be enjoyed in its familiar setting.

Rockwell Group redesigned the dining venues and new additions to offer expanded dining opportunities that enhance both the indoor and outdoor elements of the property. The signature restaurant, Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air, features modern California cuisine with European and Mediterranean influences. A spacious indoor/outdoor patio overlooks the garden and lush grounds, and multiple glass wine cellars separate the main and private dining rooms.
Guests can enjoy tea and cocktails in the lobby lounge, while the famous hotel bar has maintained its cosy lounge feeling and a separate Terrace bar has been added. Events from 10 to 300 can be accommodated in the redesigned Garden Ballroom and Palm Room. Business and leisure travellers alike will also appreciate the installment of a new WiFi network to ensure all mobile devices work at optimum speed and clarity.

The signature Hotel Bel-Air swans, which remained at Swan Lake during the entirety of the restoration process, can still be found gliding along the clearest of water thanks to a new circulation pump that will save 1.5 M gallons of water a year.

URBAN CHEF OLIVER ROWE AND MASTER PRESERVER CLIPPY (AKA MICHELLE MCKENNA) CELEBRATE APPLE DAY WITH A BRITISH APPLE MASTERCLASS AT FORTNUM & MASON
21st October, 2011 – 2-3pm
Fortnum & Mason, First Floor Demonstration Kitchen
FREE!

Apple Day – 21st October 2011 – is the pinnacle of the British apple season which is now in full swing.

To celebrate this year, Oliver Rowe and Clippy (aka Michelle McKenna) of Clippy’s Apples - home of award-winning British apple-based preserves – have teamed up to teach people how to make a delicious apple-inspired menu in an interactive cooking demonstration:

Apple & Damson Cheese* with local Goats Cheese, Fortnum & Mason Charcuterie and London toast ***
Crab Apple jelly with duck breast and star anise
***
Apple and Thyme Tart Tatin with Lavender and Lemon Crème Chantilly

*Fruit preserves that are set thick enough to slice are often called cheeses – the most famous is quince cheese, known in Spain as ‘membrillo’. Fruit cheeses such as Apple & Damson are sweet, full of flavour and dense with fruit.

Rosie Boycott, Chair of London Food said; I hope this collaboration of Clippy's Apples and Oliver Rowe will show Londoners how amazingly versatile British apples are. They are a great example of how local, seasonal food can be cheap, delicious and great fun to eat. Apple trees can be grown in the cities and I hope to see community orchards popping up over the coming years.

Master Preserver Clippy will be on hand after the demonstration to give top tips for preserving apples and other autumnal fruits combined with indulgent flavours and what Clippy terms hedonistic ingredients such as chocolate, alcohol and warming spices…

Clippy said: ‘Apple Day is a great way to celebrate British apples. It’s also a day to highlight the fact that nearly two-thirds of British apple orchards have been lost since 1970 which is a shocking statistic. I want people to start buying British once again to reverse this disturbing trend!

‘I’m super excited to be working with Oliver on this. Oliver has such a passion for sourcing local ingredients; it’s what apple day should be all about!’

Oliver said: ‘Clippy and I have created a unique menu to showcase how versatile apples can be. With so many wonderful varieties, we should all make an effort to buy British apples!’

Fortnum & Mason will also be hosting an apple quiz for people to apply their apple knowledge and you’ll get the opportunity to sample some of England’s oldest and finest apple varieties. A real apple extravaganza!

CLIPPY’S APPLES AND OCADO HELP SAVE THE BRITISH APPLE

(October 2011) Throughout October 10 pence from every jar of Clippy's Apples – the award-winning range of British apple-based preserves – sold through online supermarket Ocado (www.ocado.com) will be donated to The London Orchard Project for their work with the RE:LEAF programme to help create community orchards in London.

RE:LEAF is spearheaded by the Mayor of London with an ambition to increase tree canopy cover in the Capital by five percent by 2025.

With British apple season in full swing and apple day fast approaching – 21st October – Clippy’s Apples’ Founder and Master Preserver Clippy is on a mission to promote the British apple and to encourage people to use and maintain their beautiful orchards.

Clippy’s Apples has become a partner for the Urban Orchards Project and will help create 100 community orchards in the Capital.

Clippy said: ‘I am super excited to be working with Ocado to help generate much needed funds for the London Orchard Project. I started Clippy’s Apples with a mission to save the British apple and that’s exactly what a programme like RE:LEAF can achieve.’

About Clippy’s Apples

Clippy’s Apples is the brainchild of Master Preserver Clippy who set up Clippy’s Apples with a mission to save the British Apple.

The award-winning range of mind-bogglingly tasty and hugely versatile preserves are made using the quintessential British apple and have a significantly higher fruit content than other brands dominating the shelves, making them a healthier option. Clippy’s Apples products are packed with juicy fruits and other indulgent ingredients such as fresh ginger and cinnamon to create unique flavour combinations.

Clippy’s Apples flavours available to purchase at Ocado include: Clippy’s Apple & Figgy Diggy Conserve; Clippy’s Apple, Garlic and Thyme Jelly; Clippy’s Apple & Figgy Chilli Relish and Clippy’s Apple Pie Jam.

Your environment needs you, that is the message today as PlantforLife launches the PlantforLife Environment Report 2011–an insight into the nations green credentials. The report looks back at how people’s awareness and understanding of the benefits of gardening has changed in the last 4 years, with the overwhelming finding being that there’s still more to do!

Research from PlantforLife has shown that as a nation we are trying to do our green bit, with 86% of garden owners undertaking at least one gardening activity in the last year – yet despite this it seems we still need educating on the wider benefits of gardening -56% of people still only recognise the aesthetic benefits of plants.

The research has also revealed that when it comes to gardening, wildlife is a key priority, with people increasingly taking steps to encourage wildlife back into their gardens - from providing nesting or breeding habitats (25%) to simply planting to encourage wildlife back. In fact, 1 in 3 people now do things specifically to encourage wildlife into the gardens, compared to less than a quarter in 2007. That’s why with the help of celebrity gardener Chris Collins,

PlantforLife have launched the Environment Report giving eco-tips and planting advice on what easy things we can all do to help our environment, from saving and re-using water to planting to attract wildlife back into your garden. He shows you how you can do more in your garden no matter what your needs, whether you’re looking to create a child-friendly space or wanting to experiment with your garden or continue with their passion for wildlife, PlantforLife can offer the solutions through their easy planting hints and tips. ‘FLAVOURS OF PERU’ FOOD FESTIVAL WITH CHEF VIRGILIO MARTINEZ AT INTERCONTINENTAL LONDON PARK LANE FROM 17 – 23 OCTOBER 2011

Cookbook Cafe, at InterContinental London Park Lane will host ‘Flavours of Peru' in association with the Embassy of Peru, a week-long gourmet food festival celebrating contemporary Peruvian cuisine. Acclaimed chef Virgilio Martinez of Central restaurant in Lima will create the culinary festival that runs 17th – 23rd October 2011, bringing one of Peru's most exciting restaurants to the capital.

‘Flavours of Peru’ at Cookbook Cafe will reflect the growing celebration of indigenous Peruvian cuisine and present dishes served by chef Martinez at Central, such as grouper tiradito with rocoto, tubers, naval avocado and chalaca; and hot ceviche of shrimp and seabass with charcoal and araza. The menu will be preceded by renowned Peruvian Pisco Sours, made with the fermented juice of different varieties of grapes.

‘Flavours of Peru’ at Cookbook Cafe at InterContinental London Park Lane is part of an ongoing series of gourmet food festivals designed to showcase leading chefs and exciting food regions to London.

At just 34 years-old, Virgilio Martinez has held the position of Executive Chef at Astrid y Gaston, listed on the San Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurants list. He is currently chef patron of Central restaurant in Lima, which has received critical acclaim since opening in 2010. Before opening in his home city, Virgilio worked in notable kitchens in New York, London, Singapore, and Spain. Next year he is set to open his own restaurant, Lima London, with a site earmarked in Shoreditch.

Peruvian Cuisine has a long and distinguished history. The potato was brought back to Europe having been discovered high in the Peruvian Andes. With Spanish colonisation and migration from Africa, China, Italy, and Japan, a huge variety of influences and techniques have been brought to bear on the indigenous cuisine, with resulting dishes such as ceviches, stews, and most notably chifa. A strong regional identity predominates, with dishes from the Andean region still featuring ingredients from pre-Inca times; or the cuisine of the jungle, which has its own fish, fruit and vegetables.

Dinner will be à la carte and based on dishes from Central restaurant and lunch will be served on Cookbook Cafes market table, with a selection of more traditional dishes in the option of three starters, three main courses, and three desserts (priced at £30 for two courses, including a Pisco Sour, water, tea/ coffee.) Musical entertainment will accompany dinner, and the special weekend brunch.

MONSTER WEEK AT BARTS
This Halloween speakeasy bar Barts is proud to present Monster Week, a string of haunting happenings taking place between Tuesday 25th & Saturday 30th October. Barts loves Halloween so much that not just one night of celebrations will do; expect a truly terrifying time during a week of spooky events at Barts.

Starting with Barts’ Music Box Presents: ‘The Curious Jules & Miss Fee’. On a night where good meets evil, Julia Birkinshaw and Fiona Culley will provide sweet vocals, scary sing-a-longs and ghoulishly great original tracks, perfect to kick off your Halloween festivities. Heaven meets hell and country meets gangsta rap on this Hallow’s Eve of obligatory fancy dress.

Continuing the ghoulish theme, Barts Hendrick’s Book Club presents ‘Ghost Stories’ by Roger Clarke, its most chilling book club yet on Wednesday 26th October. Just in time for Halloween, Roger will be talking through famous hauntings that have obsessed the world for centuries. Join us if you dare for this ghoulish talk.

To conclude the week, Uncle Barts invites you to The Yelloween Masked Soiree on Saturday 30th October in association with Veuve Clicquot. Bring your capes, masks, top-hats and anything haunting for a hair-raising night of Halloween spookery. Who knows which ghouls will be conjured up by the end of the night…?

Barts is a quirky 'speak easy' style bar on prestigious Sloane Avenue in the heart of Chelsea. It was voted the 21st best bar in the UK in the Independent newspaper’s recent Best 50 Bars supplement. It is the brainchild of Duncan Stirling and Charlie Gilkes, the young duo who also recently opened the highly successful 80’s themed nightclub, Maggie’s. It is well loved for its great and innovative cocktails and sense of fun. They opened Bunga Bunga, an Englishman's Italian, Bar, Pizzeria and Karaoke in Battersea this Autumn.

So this Halloween join us if you dare for the most terrifying week of the year…
