DESIGNER HELEN TURKINGTON EXPANDS BUSINESS IN LONDON

Renowned interior designer Helen Turkington has expanded her business and launched a new store, Helen Turkington Fabrics based in St. Johns Hill, Battersea/Clapham, SW11 1TG. This follows the success of Helen Turkington Fabrics in Dublin. This new addition to the Turkington brand will sell a range of around 300 fabrics from mills supplying top international design houses but at significantly reduced prices. The fabrics, suitable for both curtains and upholstery, will be sold under the “Helen Turkington” brand and are available to purchase “off the roll”.
An experienced sales team will be on hand to assist customers. A selection of paint samples will sit alongside each fabric range making it easy for customers to match fabrics to wall colour. As the fabric can be cut and taken home on the day of purchase, customers have the choice of using their own upholsterer / curtain-maker or availing of one of Helen Turkington’s team.
This unique store responds to market demand, by offering the product instantly – avoiding that sometimes long wait for fabric order and delivery. Helen Turkington Fabrics will also offer customers guidance on how to measure accurately so that the correct amount of fabric can be cut.

CARBON TRUST CERTIFIES DYSON AIRBLADE™ HAND DRYER
First hand dryer awarded for committing to reduce carbon emissions
The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer is the first hand dryer to be awarded the Carbon Reduction Label from the Carbon Trust.
To secure the Carbon Reduction Label, the machine’s total carbon footprint – the amount of carbon emissions (CO2 and other greenhouse gases) produced from its materials and manufacture, transport, in-use and end of life – were measured and certified by the Carbon Trust. As part of the certification, Dyson has committed to reducing the Airblade™ hand dryer’s carbon emissions further in the next two years.

YOUNG'S NOVEL IDEA IS PICKED UP BY PENGUIN
Manchester-based design agency Young have signed a world-wide book deal with Penguin for their self initiated project 'Learn Something Every Day'.
The project began as a website (Learnsomethingeveryday.co.uk) in August 2009, inspired by a conversation in a pub between the two founders Pete Jarvis & Geth Vaughan. The website interacts with its audience by inviting fact submissions and each day the agency uploads a 'quirky doodle' illustrating the lesser known fact.
''Being a new studio without many contacts within the industry, we needed to get our name out there. We came to the conclusion that something that was updated daily would keep our company in people's minds.''
The website was launched August 1st 2009 attracting very little visitors. By integrating the websites daily updates into the company's twitter feed and through the blogging community; people started taking notice, within two weeks the website was recording 10,000 unique visits every day.
Soon after, the company began receiving various publishing offers to translate the concept into printed formats ranging from calendars to books. To handle the negotiations, the agency elected the representation of the renowned literary agent, Jason Ashlock of Moveable Type Foundary, NY.
The publishing contract went to auction and saw several global publishing houses bidding for the concept including, Harper Collins, Chronicle and Penguin.
Our tentative plan is to publish this as a four-color, 368 pages, 5 ½ x 6, paperback format. We publish a number of strong-selling quirky books (Keri Smith’s titles Wreck This Journal, How to Be an Explorer of the World, This Is Not a Book, and the forthcoming Mess), as well as very successful trivia miscellanies (the NY Times bestselling Book of Useless Information series), we see this as a perfect fit for our list and a title we think we could do very well with.''
