Hot Brands Cool Places Review

This book really is awesome!! Although targeted at 8-12 year olds, there are many messages in here that apply to anyone of any age. Written in a very accessible style, full of interaction, humour and brilliant advice. In Diary of a Brilliant Kid: Top Secret Guide to Awesomeness, the authors, as well as sharing so many other important ideas, also encourage young people to focus on breathing;

‘Spend 3 minutes breathing well five times a day’

For many this may be a novel suggestion, but such a valuable practice to take into adult life.

This is followed by encouraging them to be a role model of happiness and positivity and to develop a positive attitude of mental wealth by living by the principles in the book and by educating others.

This is a wonderful book to share; as a parent with your children, and at a time when many teachers are struggling with motivating and inspiring young people within a narrow and restrictive curriculum this book is upbeat, positive and inspiring, like a burst of sunshine, it should be a set book for all!

Highly Recommended!

Dynasties – The Rise and Fall of Animal Families – Stephen Moss – Author – David Attenborough – Foreword

Dynasties - The Rise and Fall of Animal Families - Stephen Moss - Author - David Attenborough - Foreword Synopsis:Family isn’t just important. It’s everything.

From lions hunting as a pride to penguins huddling together to keep from freezing in the bitter Antarctic winter, many animals are dependent on complex social relationships for their survival. Powerful dynasties lay claim to vast swathes of territory, fighting off rivals and securing their hunting grounds for generations to come.
Dynasties offers an immersive insight into the shifting hierarchies of animal families. Each chapter follows a different dynasty, from the Marsh Lions of the Masai Mara to rival packs of painted wolves, from a tiger protecting her newborn cubs to a chimpanzee troop and the penguin colonies of the Antarctic. Alongside tender moments when bonds are strengthened through grooming and play, the book charts the rivalries that tip the balance of power, when family members turn against each other and younger animals grow strong enough to challenge for control.

With over 200 stunning photographs and insights from the crew of the BBC series, Dynasties reveals in astonishing detail the intricate social lives of our planet’s most fascinating animals.

Hot Brands Cool Places Review
Dynasties focuses on five animal families, Lions, Chimpanzees, Painted Wolves, Penguins and Tigers. In his Foreword, David Attenborough explains that ‘Animals have families, just as we do, and that is exactly what this book and it’s parent series is about’ The photography in the book is outstanding, particularly the close-up shots of individual animals, and the narrative is insightful giving both the background to the filming and the lives of the animals.

This very special book is the perfect accompaniment to the BBC Dynasties series. Highly Recommended!

The Nonsense Show by Eric Carle

The No Nonsense ShowSynopsis: Ducks growing out of bananas?
A mouse catching a cat?
 What’s wrong with this book?

Yes, there’s something strange, something funny and even downright preposterous on every page of this book (and even the cover!). But it’s not a mistake – it’s nonsense! And it’s also surrealism. Nonsense lies at the heart of many beloved nursery rhymes. Children readily accept odd statements like “the cow jumped over the moon” and “the dish ran away with the spoon.” This fanciful bending of reality is also basic to surrealism.

In this book, nonsense and surrealism combine to spark creativity and imagination. What’s true? What’s impossible? What’s absolutely absurd? From Eric Carle, creator of the classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, comes a book to make children laugh and think, preparing them for a lifetime of loving both words and art.

Hot Brands Cool Places Verdict

The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been an important part of our family for many years much loved by every child that opens it. The Nonsense Show captures the same vibrant style of illustration that Eric Carle does so well.

Full of imagination, we loved the spirit of The Nonsense Show which is sure to become another inspiring classic for parents, children and schools destined to entertain future generations. We loved it! Highly Recommended!
